Weekly Scrum readings follow up - CW47/2012

Background

How to build a high performance team

"The fear of things that are different is a tremendous driver for people"
"I look for people who have innovated and who look like they will continue to innovate, and I look for people who can really think"

This post give some nice input what to consider when hiring for and building a new team. Diversity and innovation experience is described as an really important fact to consider.

Agile Transition - What you need to know before starting

What a nice minibook describing what the agile transition means. 3 years ago Andrea Tomasini helped us in our transition to Scrum and I was curious to read his book. It really nicely describes what AGILE means - worth to read again for everyone of us ;-) and what you should consider right from the beginning.

"Failing to learn in an organization leads to more dysfunctional behaviors as the result of investigation efforts aims at solving symptoms of a problem rather than the root cause. Courage, and a willingness to admit our own failures, is required"

"Agile frameworks challenge the preconceived ideas of traditional management, beginning with project management, portfolio management and eventually strategic management. The point in time where an organization realizes this, is the exact moment when the success of your agile transformation is determined."

Software development and creativity

Creativity is more than just being different. Anybody can be plain weird; that’s easy. What’s hard is to be as simple as Bach. Making the simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity. – Charles Mingus

This post helps to understand that software development needs creativity and what does creativity mean. Based on the definition Michael Lant suggest how to tune your hiring process and what is important for your team to foster creativity.

"Software development is at the intersection of Art and Commerce"

Do you hire for IQ or Klout score and the Future of innovation

"How we use data in strategic ways will become a competitive differentiator."

"The agile approach to innovation insists that the best way to make the right decision is to launch first (and then learn)."

In his Minibook Andrew Razeghi gives a nice desciption what is important to build a highly innovative environment. One sentence sets the expectations:

To create a plan to win, leaders must reimagine, redesign, and reinvent themselves as agile, collaborative, open, socially-connected, global, collections of general managers with the shared purpose of solving problems in real-time, using data on the fly with an eye towards the future.

His additional provoking blog post regarding the importance of IQ versus your rating in social networking is worth reading it. Have FUN ;-)

Do you have other interesting sources of information around Scrum? Or maybe you have already experience with the listed ones? Your feedback is highly appreciated!
